1 In 8 Cancer Cases Worldwide Are Due to Infections

(Saturday October 03, 2026 @11:00AM (BeauHD) from the infectious-side dept.)

An estimated 2.3 million cancer cases worldwide in 2024, about one in eight, [1]were attributable to infections , according to a study [2]published in The Lancet Oncology . "This recent Lancet data is a profound reminder that a significant portion of our global cancer burden is fundamentally preventable," said David Greenberg, MD, of Hackensack Meridian Jersey Shore University Medical Center, in a [3]news release . "We have historically siloed infectious diseases and oncology, but they are deeply intertwined. By shifting our focus toward aggressive infection control, we can literally vaccinate and treat our way out of millions of future cancer diagnoses." From a report:

> The study found that an estimated 2.3 million new cancer cases were attributable to infections globally in 2024, equivalent to 12% of all cancer cases. Of these, the largest number (760,000 cases, or 4%) were caused by H. pylori, followed by HPV (750,000 cases, or 4%), HBV (360,000 cases, or 2%), EBV (260,000 cases, or 1%) and HCV (160,000 cases). More than three quarters of infection-attributable cancers occurred in low- and middle-income countries. Eastern Asian had the largest burden, with 990,000 cases (42% of the global total). Rates were also higher than the global average in sub-Saharan Africa, Central and Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia.

Papers get ridiculed when the data is not reproducible or does not support the claims. Not because the medical industry can't make huge profits sell baking soda. Papers are written and published because that's how you get ahead in academics. If there is a simple miracle cure for cancer, there are a thousand hungry PhDs and students willing to write papers on it.

You do realize why there isn't more money being poured into the search for a cure... the clinic can't make tons of $ if you can cure cancer with a single shot.

No students are writing papers about 'the miracle cure' because they don't know about it... the drug companies make sure that the students don't know about 'the cure'.

Even Dutch scientists found that ordinary baking powder was able to cure some types of cancer. They abandoned the whole project because they could not find a way to patent ordinary baking powder. Being indoctrinated on universities bout what is the truth and then working for BigPharma doesn't contribute much as they'd rather put you on a lifetime supply of medicine instead of curing you.

And without data you're convinced this is correct. Gullibility is hurting this world.

Its only a matter of time before we find more cancers attributable to infections. Classically, it was anorectal, cervical, laryngeal and oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinomata that were attributed to HPV. It'll be a matter of time before we identify the serovar of HPV that results in cutaneous SCC - and I suspect, in my lifetime, we will see a reduction in cutaneous SCC cases due to vaccination with Gardasil. It's sold as an "HPV vaccine" but it only targets about 4% of HPV viruses, specifically the ones most likely to cause cervical cancer in women in their 40's. It's described in the Merck literature.

Not even the HPV most likely to cause throat cancer in men (usually acquired from lady parts).

If cancer treatment advances at the current rate (AI discovery docs estimate 9 years for the supermajority) it's possible that the Gardasil fatalities will have killed more teens than prevented deaths of wom
