"Bringing GX to Linux users -- who are renowned for the control they like to exert over their tools -- means gamers and developers can manage browser resources, customize their setup, and keep their system performing exactly the way they want."

Disclaimer: I have neither tried nor actively use this, not have I seen usage stats, but...
The streaming game solutions can be used directly from a browser. For example, GeForce Now: [1]https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/g... [nvidia.com]
XBox Cloud Gaming and Amazon Luna are a couple others. They seem to have all the popular titles, including AAA games. I've been meaning to try one of them from a meta quest VR headset - don't have much use for it otherwise, and I don't have a current PS nor XBox nor gaming PC.

I think a "browser for gamers" is marketing bullshit for a "browser with Twitch, Discover and a dump truck of affiliate shit hardcoded into it whether you need it or not". I expect gamers would be better served just by using a normal browser if they had the urge to. Most likely the experience is better, and the browser would be more focused on what it is supposed to be doing. Also, Opera's reputation for privacy is hardly enhanced knowing they're Chinese owned these days.

Think it's less about games in the browser, and more about just a marketing gimmick to cater to 'gamer sensibilities'
I think if anything they vaguely pitch about controls to keep the browser from taking precious resources away from games or something..

No it's not about games running in browsers. Opera is hoping that gamers who all universally want their PCs to look like glow in the dark unicorn vomit, also want a browser to look like neon coloured unicorn vomit.
That's literally all this is. A browser with neon skinning designed to match shitty Razer RGB LED Keyboards.
They also make some vague mention of reining in system resources, but don't provide any indication that this browser is less resource hungry than any other.

Yep. Not everyone knows that browser Opera is owned by the CCP, and is an active intelligence agent. Got important financial/political data on your computer; Opera will suck-it-dry like the best whore you ever engaged. And yes, back in-the-day I was one of those fools who paid $40 for beta O.3 with a promise of O.4 that was never fulfilled. Being a prick is in Operas blood like typhoid.

Actually Opera never went to the CCP until much much later. I think it was about the 2016-2017 time frame. It was at that point I dropped using it. I always used the free version.
Many of the main devs started their own browser Vivaldi which is my main browser. However like most browsers, it is just different lipstick on the same pig... Chromium.

They are not. They are talking about normal gaming, and Linux is on the rise with Windows slowly ceeding market share to Linux in the gaming space.

Do you understand what the word "long" means? I know we old people like to pretend we're still young, but when people talk about "long" in the IT world we're talking a decade, maybe 15 years tops. I installed it recently and it was just a mass of broken skins and affiliate / partner crap all wrapped up in eye aching "gamer" theme - neon on black etc. I don't see why anybody, gamer or not would want to use it in the state it is in.

I chose an easier option and uninstalled it. Honestly in the state it is, it seems irredeemable. Why do I want a browser laden down with all this bloat and god knows what in the way of affiliate links, ads and "personalized content"?

When the software is unusable, I expect to be paid to do QA. Otherwise, they can keep their crap.
Speaking of which, Firefox really is turning into a Fuckfest. Especially the mobile version. Not only have they not fixed the copious memory leaks everyone has reported to them, they have now introduced a new crash bug that's hitting me every day or two.

It seems firefox has been plagued by memory leaks since it was named phoenix. What is going on ? I can't use firefox becuase the tab handling absolutely sucks. After about a dozen tabs i have to scroll. Firefox is a browser for people who only open 3 tabs max.

Ridiculous. At home on my main Linux desktop I typically have 3 Firefox windows each with multiple tabs and one with 11 open all day, every day, 24x7. I will occasionally close Firefox if I have to update it or the kernel or whatnot.

It is for kids really. My 8-year old loves it for the looks. And it makes sounds too, and has some ambient music. The whole thing is distracting for any normal person. Not sure who the target audience on Linux is.

Their entire business model is people getting confused and thinking it's the same thing as Brave. It's actually a worse privacy nightmare than Edge, not to mention being designed for 10 year olds.
