Indonesia Bans Google Pixel Phones Over Local Rules (techcrunch.com)

Indonesia has [1]banned sales of Google Pixel smartphones for failing to meet a 40% local content requirement, days after [2]blocking Apple's iPhone 16 in Southeast Asia's biggest phone market. Google must obtain local content certification before resuming sales in Indonesia, Industry Ministry spokesman Febri Hendri Antoni Arief said. The move follows last week's iPhone 16 ban after Apple failed to fulfill a $95 million investment pledge.

Given that Apple and Google have minuscule shares of the Indonesian smart phone market, there are apparently a bunch of companies that are meeting the requirements.

Indonesia is dominated by Chinese Vivo and Xiaomi... which also aren't made in Indonesia. Indonesia is part of a bunch of trading alliances with China though.

This feels more like Indonesia being a puppet of Pooh Bear rather than any actual issue Indonesia has with Apple/Google.
