David Goffin n’ira pas plus loin que le deuxième tour au Masters 1000 de Rome. Le Liégeois a été éliminé en deux sets par le jeune Américain Jenson Brooksby (6-0, 7-6). Diminué physiquement dans le premier set, le numéro 1 belge a retrouvé son jeu dans la seconde manche, il a servi à deux reprises pour le gain du set, mais n’a pas su en profiter, avant de craquer dans le tie break, perdu 7 points à 1.
