(2021/03/24)

Former AWS CEO and Amazon.com CEO-in-waiting Andy Jassy has announced his successor: Tableau CEO Adam Selipsky.

In an email to AWS staff that the company [1]made public , Jassy detailed the 11 years that Selipsky spent at AWS as a vice-president in charge of support, sales, and marketing.

Selipsky left AWS in 2016 to become CEO at data visualisation darling Tableau, which [3]Salesforce acquired in 2019 . That transaction saw Selipsky retain his job and become a member of Salesforce’s Executive Leadership Team.

During Selipsky’s time at Tableau annual revenue grew from $826.9m to $1.16bn and the company was sold for a colossal $15.7bn.

“Adam brings strong judgment, customer obsession, team building, demand generation, and CEO experience to an already very strong AWS leadership team,” Jassy said, also suggesting his previous stint at AWS means “he knows our culture and business well.”

Jassy pointed out that Selipsky inherits a company with a revenue run rate, 28 percent year on year growth, and a global IT market that currently spends just five percent of its cash on cloud.

Selipsky returns to AWS on May 17th and will get to sit in the big chair sometime in Amazon’s third quarter, which runs from July to September.

At the time of writing, Salesforce appears not to have made any statement or issued a regulatory filing about the change at Tableau. ®

Couldn't find a techie from the inside?

Yeah so he's at least ex-AWS, but bit perturbed they couldn't a) find someone who's currently inside and b) has a tech background, not a sales drone.

You have one guess why this is an AC post.

Voiceless it cries,
Wingless flutters,
Toothless bites,
Mouthless mutters.
