Register reader Anthony Remmers spotted Windows being poorly in a Springfield, Missouri branch of the beef-bothering fast food chain.

Poor old McDonald's doesn't seem to have a lot of luck when it comes to its punter-operated POS terminals, with either helpful Windows dialogs or a full-on BSOD awaiting the unwary.
Sadly not a Burger Stuffed Of Deliciousness, the Blue Screen Of Death is an all too familiar visitor to many a Windows user. Even though nowadays a user is more likely to see a sad-faced emoticon, the sudden appearance of the stop screen is rarely welcome.
While pinpointing the version of Windows in use is tricky, the error itself normally indicates some sort of hardware issue, although within the walls of the patty pusher, that process or thread crucial to "system operation" is probably ketchup or mustard. Something without which the consumption of the fried delights would be challenging at best.
As for the error itself, we'd suspect that there is some duff hardware at play here; certainly the 0x0000004F and 0x00000003 codes have been known to point at iffy RAM or maybe some failing network hardware. While we doubt the machines have had much in the way of hardware upgrades over the years, it is possible that the atmosphere of grease, disappointment and desperation that pervades some establishments might have seeped in and wreaked havoc.
We'd have hit the "Press for assistance" button, but have a sinking feeling that that would only make things worse.
Still, El Reg never thought we'd find ourselves saying this, we're looking forward to the day when we can once more minimise human interaction in one of Ronald's restaurants and wonder if the person ahead of us in the queue washed their hands before pawing at the screen.
In the meantime, we'll just have to enjoy today's bork as a reminder of how things used to be.
Borked beyond belief. ®

Re: Stuffed full of deliciousness
It's interesting how many slag off McD's, yet the. food hygiene is pretty good (as an example the Handmade burger co. In Birmingham was shut down because of a zero eating, as well as dozens of "proper restaurants ).
The food is not the greatest but is affordable for many. And generally considering the footfall, they tend to be pretty clean
For an occasional quick bite, if it's your thing, why not. It's not my thing, but occasionally at 3am after finishing work, why not.
It's about as petty as having a dig at people because they like a £3 bottle of wine.
I've eaten at some very expensive Michelin star restaurants and left feeling disappointed and ripped off.
If you like a McD's go for it.
Although if you one of those queuing for 4 hours, them you really have lost the plot.
Re: Stuffed full of deliciousness
It is not food hygiene that is the problem. It is that the UK just can not for love or money get it right in regards to "fast food" and especially burgers. McD or Burger King in Switzerland or Austria are amazing places to eat at and the burgers are on a level with those you might find in Granger & Co - about the only place in London/SE that I could recommend for a burger.
Re: Stuffed full of deliciousness
The easiest way to limit social interaction at Ron's Rooburgers is to use their self-ordering terminals.
They're the only US joint (before the 'rona) to offer such things in working order.
You walk up, tap in your order, pay for it, and sit down. In about 10 minutes, someone brings your food.
Almost no social interaction, thus making the less than stellar food worthwhile for someone that's tired of asking "extra onions please" 4 times and still getting it wrong at other establishments. I'm looking at you, Burger King and Wendy's.
Wimpy
There is a Wimpy on Streatham High Road.
Hmm....
" punter-operated POS terminals"
Hmmm.... Piece of sh%%%%%%%% terminals. Yep sounds about right....
BSOD
Often see reboot sequences on our local buses. At least they're the right way up so we can read them. Must get that CPU fan rate sorted, oh here comes the bus. Probably stop for an hour doing Windows feature update to 5 wheels or something.
Bork sausages?
Mine's the one with the greasy Happy Meal toys in the pockets...
It's McDonalds surely its:
Burger Starved Of Deliciousness
Press for assistance?
Shouldn't there be three buttons? Wink wink.
Crap chips innit?
Stuffed full of deliciousness
I hope that was sarcasm.
The easiest way to limit social interaction at Ron's Rooburgers is to go somewhere that sells actual food.
The only fast food establishments that smelled worse are the old Wimpy Bars and I think (and hope) they have all gone by now.
