Some [1]1,248 IBMers are at risk of losing their jobs , with 263 expected to leave the business under the latest expense purge. IBM said it needs to cut costs again because GTS revenues keep shrinking.
GTS Infrastructure Services (IS) Non Delivery personnel were asked on 20 February to make an "expression of interest" (EoT) to be considered for voluntary redundancy by 3 March. IS Delivery and T&T staff had from [2]4 March until 16 March .

In an email to staff on 25 March, Brian Farr, IBM UK veep for IS, said in a roundabout way that he hadn't filled the necessary quota for redundancies.
"Today I am announcing that the opportunity to submit an EOI has been reintroduced and will be available until further notice."
"As a reminder, under this programme, IBM will offer employees the option to leave IBM with a cash payment, which will allow the company to meet its business objectives while providing a financial transition benefit for employees. I would encourage you to give it careful consideration."
For clarity, the payments volunteers can expect include stat redundancy terms, a 12-week notice period during which the IBMers will work, "career transition support" and the potential to cough an "additional pension contribution from ex-gratia payment for those that sign a settlement agreement."
Similarly, people at IS Delivery and T&T were told by Rudolph Oudeboon, UK and Ireland veep of IS Delivery, that the opportunity to file an EoI had "been re-introduced and will be available until further notice."
"As a reminder, this is an opportunity for each of you to evaluate whether you wish to make a proactive decision to leave IBM at this time," he stated, in an email to staff, who will also be given the same terms as IS "Non Delivery" people.
That IBMers aren't keen to leap into the employment abyss in the current climate is hardly surprising because their prospects for immediate employment don't appear to be promising.
Governments are forcing their citizens to go into lockdown, all but non-essential shops have been closed, and legions of the employed are working from home.
Still, IBM has shareholders to pacify and margin aspiration to hit that it thinks can be achieved by clipping the number of frontline techies that actual deliver the stuff its salespeople sell. ?

Re: "I would encourage you to give it careful consideration"
The people making these insane decisions are only thinking of themselves. Their short term gain is everyone else's long term pain.
Re: Honestly, what is IBM thinking ?
I see this as 'C' level execs being from a different planet than the rest of us.
They clearly are not living in the real world.
Mind you, they are not alone. It seems that most US based 'C' Level Execs have beein infected by the same Virus. No, not COVID-19 but the one that makes them assume that it is BAU even though the world is in the midst of a Pandemic.
Most sane (I'd better wash my mouth out with soap after this) bosses will simply tell Wall St that due to circumstances beyond control they won't make the income/profits that they forceast at the end of their liast fiscal quarter.
Their stock is going to go down anyway like everyone else in the DJIA apart from the makes of loo rolls, PPE and Ventilators.
But as I said, these are beings from a different planet and are doing what we have come to expect from these Aliens.
Oh, and top of the list is Bezos. When you have more money than many countries you are asking for donations to provide healthcare for your employees? He really is from a different galaxy.
I am also sure that there will be more of this before we come out the other end. Their Dear Leader (of the USA) is also a member of this invasive species.

Wow, that was Wednesday, after the government had announced the shutdown of almost the entire country. Do his executive talents not even stretch to having the slightest ability to think things through? Or is he secretly angling for a new job at Sports Direct or Wetherspoons as executive vice bastard of selfish insensitivity?
Re: In an email to staff on 25 March, Brian Farr, IBM UK veep....
Well it seems he went straight from Henley Management College (MBA) to IBM as a Strategic Outsourcing Executive, so no, I don't think that sensitivity to employees has ever be part of his core role. Could be a nice guy, but as one of his LinkedIn chums says "Mick is always an asset to the team, exudes executive presence and is an outstanding Delivery Executive". Make of that what you will.
"I would encourage you to give it careful consideration"
Because the kick to the behind that will follow will be much less pleasant.
Honestly, what is IBM thinking ? People may be looking for employment elsewhere, but right now that doesn't mean that they can find a position. We're in self-isolation, that makes things a tad difficult for interviews, doesn't it ?
