Linux Mint 27 Continues Working Toward Christmas Release With Many Features

([Operating Systems] 4 Hours Ago Linux Mint 27)

Linux Mint developers continue enjoying their relaxed release schedule in moving from a six to twelve month release cycle. Linux Mint 27 "Adrien" continues tracking for a Christmas release.

With the much longer release cycle, Linux Mint developers are taking their time in developing new and more features per release compared to their prior half-year cadence. Linux Mint founder Clement Lefebvre remarked in their September status update published today:

"This is the first time we’ve taken a full year to develop Linux Mint. Going from a 6-month release schedule to a yearly one was a tough decision to make, but we’re really starting to see it pay off. We’re taking on projects and implementing changes which would previously have been considered too large or ambitious. We’ve got time. We don’t feel rushed. Development feels solid and the OS keeps getting better.

I’ve been working on Linux Mint for more than 20 years now. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many changes and new features implemented for a single release. It’s really exciting and it scares me a little bit because that also means we’re going to be very busy during the beta phase 🙂

Aside from new features, we’ve been fixing a huge number of bugs. We’ve also been working on Wayland compatibility, improving our processes and internal tools, and prototyping new editions."

Linux Mint 27 is working toward a Christmas debut with many Wayland improvements, powered by an Ubuntu 26.04 LTS base, and will feature at least the Cinnamon, Xfce, and MATE desktop editions.

Linux Mint 27 succeeds Linux Mint 22.3 in moving toward the version representing the year ahead.

More details on the current state of Linux Mint 27 development can be found via the project's [1]September report .
