Open-source firmware consulting firm 3mdeb is out with a new blog post highlighting their recent work on enhancing the UEFI update capsules experience for open-source firmware with Coreboot and their downstream Dasharo offerings.

3mdeb has been working around LVFS/Fwupd-related improvements for delivering a better experience there when deplying UEFI Update Capsules around their firmware images. For end-users there are also UI/UX enhancements being made. For instance, now a much nicer looking display when deploying UEFI firmware updates of new Dasharo releases:

The new firmware updates will also hopefully be faster post-update. When running a new firmware version, RAM training typically starts from scratch. Now the cached data will hopefully carry over to the new firmware version for expediting the first boot time. There are also improvements made around error reporting and recovery.

3mdeb will begin rolling out these improvements as their targeted systems/motherboards see new major firmware releases. They are also working on upstreaming these changes to for the respective open-source projects.

Nice improvements for those running Dasharo on the likes of the [1]Gigabyte server motherboard for AMD EPYC running Coreboot/Dasharo or [2]the MSI AMD Ryzen AM5 motherboard (my Dasharo tests there for that MSI desktop board with Dasharo should be out in the next few days).
