Omarchy 4.0 Linux Distro Released With Desktop Shell Now Implemented Via Quickshell

([Desktop] 4 Hours Ago Omarchy 4.0)

Omarchy as the Arch Linux distribution [1]developed by David Heinemeier Hansson "DHH" / Basecamp is out today with Omarchy 4.0 as the distro's biggest release to date.

Omarchy 4.0 has rewritten its entire desktop shell using Quickshell. The bar, launcher, menus, notifications, and other elements are are in Quickshell using a long-running shell process that is coherent, fully-themed, IPC-scriptable shell to replace a lot of independent prior components positioned around the Hyprland compositor. [2]Quickshell is a toolkit using Qt Quick for providing the "building blocks for your desktop" and both X11 and Wayland compatible.

Omarchy 4.0 also now supports dual boot installations, the ISO size is smaller than before, NetworkManager is now used for the new network panel, and a variety of other enhancements throughout this desktop-focused distribution.

The lengthy list of Omarchy 4.0 changes in full and ISO downloads of this new release can be found via [3]GitHub .

Tell me why the stars do shine,
Tell me why the ivy twines,
Tell me why the sky's so blue,
And I will tell you just why I love you.

Nuclear fusion makes stars to shine,
Phototropism makes ivy twine,
Rayleigh scattering makes sky so blue,
Sexual hormones are why I love you.
