The Beneficial Performance Gains Running The Framework Laptop Pro 13 / Core Ultra X9 388H With Linux 7.1+

([Software] 2 Hours Ago Add A Comment)

The recently launched [1]Framework Laptop 13 Pro powered by Intel Core Ultra Series 3 "Panther Lake" [2]runs well on Ubuntu 26.04 LTS and other modern Linux distributions . In the case of Ubuntu 26.04 with Linux 7.0, while everything works, if upgrading to Linux 7.1 or the upcoming Linux 7.2 kernel is even better performance. Here are benchmarks of the Framework Laptop 13 Pro with Core Ultra X9 388H across the Linux 7.0, 7.1, and 7.2 kernels.

For those curious about the performance difference of upgrading to Linux 7.1 stable or if there is any extra performance to be found with the Linux 7.2 kernel expected for release this weekend, here are some benchmarks I recently conducted on the Framework Laptop 13 Pro in comparing Ubuntu 26.04 across the three latest kernel series and otherwise keeping to the same software/hardware across the stack.

While all of this testing was done on the Framework Laptop 13 Pro, for the most part the kernel upgrade performance impact should carry over to other Intel Panther Lake powered laptops too. Thanks again to Framework Computer for providing the Framework Laptop 13 Pro for enabling all of these ongoing Linux performance tests.
