Redox OS Enjoys installer Improvements, Performance Enhancements

([Operating Systems] 3 Hours Ago Redox OS)

A new blog post out today from the Redox OS crew highlights all of the interesting improvements made to this Rust-based, open-source operating system over the course of July.

Redox OS has continued working on its EEVDF scheduler support and reducing the cost of CPU context switching and better scaling. Redox Summer of Code developer Akshit Gaur has brought a synthetic benchmark down from around ~1.15 microseconds to about 250 nanoseconds with the latest work. Ultimately when this work is complete it should help in greatly enhancing Redox OS performance capabilities.

Redox OS has also seen more work on improving its GUI-based OS installer to handle different install modes, image snapshot creation, and other features.

There is also continued porting of more user-space software to Redox OS. The uutils' grep and sed implementations now work on Redox as do various apps.

Redox OS has also seen various kernel improvements, continued driver enhancements, and other system improvements.

For more details on all of these recent great improvements to Redox OS can be found via [1]this blog post of their July highlights.
