Linux Mint Improves Kernel Management & Setting System-Wide Environment Variables

Linux Mint is out today with their July 2026 status update that highlights all the improvements made to their distribution over the past month.

As part of the recent effort by Linux Mint to [1]publish hardware enablement "HWE" ISOs with updated kernels for improving hardware support, Linux Mint has published updated ISOs now with the Linux 7.0 kernel. These are Linux Mint 22.3 images with the Linux 7.0 kernel now included.

Linux Mint's System Administration tool has added a new page as well dedicated to managing of system-wide environment variables. Now from this convenient GUI area you can easily manage environment variables on your system.

The Linux Mint System Administration tool has also added kernel management features formerly found in the Linux Mint Update Manager. The new kernel management area allows removing older kernels, check the kernel clean-up history, and manage other kernel tasks.
