CachyOS is out with its latest media refresh of the year. Beyond the usual desktop improvements for the performance-optimized CachyOS, they continue working toward [1]the upcoming CachyOS Server Edition .

For preparing in advance of the CachyOS Server Edition release, the August 2026 media refresh has made a number of fixes and improvements to its command-line (CLI) installer. The graphical CachyOS installer and CachyOS welcome screen have also seen some improvements on the desktop side.

The CachyOS' chwd, the kernel-manager back-end was rewritten from C++ to Rust. The Cachy Update system tray applet was also rewritten in Rust. Meanwhile the Shelly default GUI package manager transitioned from C# to Zig.

There are also a number of bug fixes, updates to the CachyOS Wiki for its gaming guide, and other enhancements.
