If you are an early customer of the [2]Framework Laptop 13 Pro or other Intel Core Ultra Series 3 [3]Panther Lake laptop and using Ubuntu 26.04 LTS, there can be real benefit from upgrading your Mesa stack for the newer Iris Gallium3D and ANV Vulkan drivers. In this article are some benchmarks of the Framework Laptop 13 Pro with Core Ultra X9 388H with Arc B390 Xe3 integrated graphics for looking at the performance impact of using Mesa Git on Ubuntu Linux.

Intel's Arc B390 graphics with Panther Lake are quite nice, but if you are using stock Ubuntu 26.04 LTS with the Mesa 26.0 graphics drivers shipped by default, you are leaving some fair amount of performance optimizations on the table. Or similarly, even Ubuntu 26.10 daily snapshots right now are using Mesa 26.0 though by the October release will be on Mesa 26.2. In this article are benchmarks looking at the stock Mesa 26.0 performance on the Framework Laptop 13 Pro compared to with Mesa 26.3-devel as the Git snapshot from a few days ago. Ubuntu Linux users can easily upgrade their Mesa packages to the latest Git with much ease via the likes of the Mesa ACO PPA. it was the Mesa ACO PPA used for this round of testing for easy reproducibility and using the Mesa Git state as of 31 July.

The Framework Laptop 13 Pro with the Intel Core Ultra X9 388H, 64GB of LPDDR5-7467 memory, 2TB WD_BLACK SN7100 NVMe SSD, and the integrated Arc B390 graphics were used for this comparison. The only change made during testing was moving from Ubuntu's Mesa 26.0 default to Mesa 26.3 Git via the Mesa ACO PPA.
