FEX 2608 Released With More Fixes For Running x86_64 Binaries On ARM64

([Free Software] 6 Hours Ago FEX 2608)

FEX 2608 is now available as the newest monthly feature update to this open-source emulator sponsored by Valve for running x86_64 binaries on ARM64, including Steam and Windows games with Steam Play (Proton).

FEX 2608 is predominantly made up of different fixes. The fixes include some changes to help with Wine usage, addressing possible overwriting of memory regions in the allocation tracking, fixing AVX signal state saving/restoring, and other fixes. FEX 2608 now implementing spinloops using the WFE instruction to allow ARM CPU cores in a lower power state while waiting on an atomic is a significant change to this release. The WFE usage for spinloops on WINE is said to "shave off Watts of power" with affected software.

In addition to the bug fixes, there is a number of JIT improvements too with FEX 2608. Among the JIT work is enhancing the 256-bit SVE support, fixing a possible crash, and optimizations for different instructions.

Mathematics, rightly viewed, possesses not only truth but supreme beauty --
a beauty cold and austere, like that of a sculpture, without appeal to any
part of our weaker nature, without the gorgeous trapping of painting or music,
yet sublimely pure, and capable of a stern perfection such as only the
greatest art can show. The true spirit of delight, the exaltation, the sense
of being more than man, which is the touchstone of the highest excellence, is
to be found in mathematics as surely as in poetry.
