AMD "Low Power" CPU Core Type Patches Queued Ahead Of Linux 7.3

([AMD] 5 Hours Ago TOPO_CPU_TYPE_LOW_POWER)

Last month I wrote bout [1]new AMD Linux patches introducing a new "low power" CPU core type as an alternative to their standard performance cores and dense efficiency cores. That work now is poised to land with the upcoming Linux 7.3 kernel.

The patches introducing TOPO_CPU_TYPE_LOW_POWER as AMD's new third core type complementing performance and efficiency cores are set to be mainlined with Linux 7.3. Important timing ahead of next-generation AMD Ryzen platforms debuting.

This code allows for proper identification of those new low-power cores anticipated to be found on some AMD Zen 6 client platforms. Pre Linux 7.3, the low-power cores work on Linux but were identified as "unknown" cores.

The AMD low-power core identification patches were queued in the past few days to [2]tip/tip.git's x86/cpu Git branch . With the patches now in a TIP branch, expect them to be submitted during the Linux 7.3 merge window happening in late August. AMD Linux engineers in general have been quite busy this year preparing for upcoming [3]Zen 6 platforms for ensuring a nice out-of-the-box Linux experience.
