([Operating Systems] 10 Hours Ago Redox OS)

The open-source, Rust-based Redox OS platform had a very eventful June with many new features implemented and more software ported over to run on this from-scratch operating system.

Redox OS today published their monthly status report around new changes and updates to find with this innovative open-source OS. Some of the June highlights include:

- Redox is receiving a grant from the NGI Zero Commons fund and NLNet to work on virtualized Redox support. The effort is focused on allowing Redox OS to work as a web server and microservices runtime running within a Rust-VMM / QEMU container.

- Redox OS has initial support for USB gamepad support with generic and Xbox layout handling. There is also broader compatiblity now for more USB devices on Redox.

- A GTK3 back-end for Redox's Orbital desktop has been developed to improve performance, reduce bugs, and eliminate X11 overhead.

- Orbital also now has fractional scaling support for better viewing with HiDPI displays.

- The Tcl programming language is now ported to Redox OS.

- The Flycast emulator is now running on Redox OS for allowing various games to run on the platform.

- The beginnings of optimizing Redox's EEVDF scheduler.

- Improved path handling performance.

- Various other system enhancements as well as to Relibc.
