The Pioneer DJM-S11 is a professional scratch style 2-channel DJ mixer that retails for $2,269 USD. But if currently connecting this expensive piece of kit to Linux, it does nothing and is unusable. With 87 new lines of code, it will begin to work with the Linux 7.3 kernel later this year.
The Pioneer DJ DJM-S11 caters to the DJ needs of clubs, concerts, music studios, and live events with its plethora of features. But it hasn't worked under Linux to this point. Federico Beffa who worked out this Linux support noted that currently under Linux it isn't recognized as an audio interface and all and "not usable" on Linux while the forthcoming patch enables all audio functionality.
The Pioneer DJ DJM-S11 relies on vendor-specific USB class descriptors and custom mixer quirks. With adding a number of USB mixer quirks to the Linux kernel, this $2k+ DJ mixing device can then work on the mainline kernel. One caveat though is the device's touchscreen not yet being supported under Linux.
[1]This patch enabling the USB audio functionality for the Pioneer DJ DJM-S11 is queued into the Linux sound subsystem's "for-next" Git branch ahead of the Linux 7.3 merge window.
