[1]Zrythm is a wonderful open-source digital audio workstation (DAW) application. [2]Zrythm 1.0 released back in 2024 for this software catering from beginners to audio professionals. It's been a GTK-based application for years but the developers [3]have been porting it to Qt6/QML . Released this weekend is the first Zrythm 2.0 alpha release that moves from GTK to Qt/QML.
Along with going from GTK to Qt6/QML on the UI side, the Zrythm codebase has morphed from C to C++23. The developers also decided to drop their Meson build system support in favor of CMake.
[4]
In addition there is JUCE plug-in support, native CLAP plug-in support, ASIO support on Windows, and a variety of other improvements.
[5]
The screenshots in this article are of Zrythm 2.0 Alpha 1. For those wanting to compare against the prior GTK-based UI:
The new Qt-based interface doesn't feel nearly as polished as the former but presumably will be further enhanced with ongoing development releases.
