AMD Submits More Graphics Driver Changes For Linux 7.2

([Radeon] 2 Hours Ago Linux 7.2 AMDGPU)

On Friday was the latest AMDGPU/AMDKFD pull request landing more kernel graphics/compute driver improvements in DRM-Next ahead of the [1]Linux 7.2 merge window happening in mid-June.

This latest round of "more stuff" for the Linux 7.2 kernel with the AMDGPU kernel graphics driver and AMDKFD kernel compute driver are largely around bug fixes. There is also some code clean-ups and other low-level changes but by and large it's about bug fixing. With Linux 7.1-rc6 due out tomorrow, we are approaching the cut-off of new feature material to DRM-Next for changes to land in Linux 7.2, thus beginning to focus more on bug fixing.

One of the main AMDGPU changes introduced in prior pull requests to DRM-Next for Linux 7.2 is [2]introducing the AMDGPU DC power module for this next kernel version. There is also ongoing work around enabling next-gen AMD Radeon graphics IP.

What hasn't yet been submitted with any AMDGPU pull request for Linux 7.2 is [3]the ongoing HDMI 2.1 / FRL enablement work . Given the timing, we'll see if any last minute pull request is issued in the coming days otherwise it's likely that HDMI 2.1 implementation work won't be landing until the Linux v7.3 kernel cycle or later, which would be unfortunate considering Linux 7.2 is what's going to be powering the likes of Ubuntu 26.10.
