SUSE/openSUSE Agama Installer Now Warns For No-Desktop Installs, Supports systemd-boot

([SUSE] 4 Hours Ago SUSE Agama Installer)

SUSE engineers continue working on their modern "Agama" operating system installer used by the latest SUSE Linux Enterprise and openSUSE Linux distributions. Out today is Agama 21 to incorporate their latest OS installer enhancements.

SUSE engineers felt that with Agama up to now it was too easy to accidentally install SUSE Linux Enterprise / openSUSE without any desktop environment selected. So one of the key changes with Agama 21 is now warning users if they are attempting an installation without a desktop environment selected, to avoid the shock of booting your new installation with just a text-based system

"That was not obvious enough in previous versions of Agama. As a result, it was too easy to end up installing a system with no graphical interface at all. The resulting text-based system could be daunting for many users, especially newbies to openSUSE or GNU/Linux in general."

So with a proper warning, this won't hopefully be a concern moving forward.

Agama 21 also improves the network management options from its web-based UI, supports installing now to an existing Logical Volume Manager (LVM) setup, and adds support for systemd-boot as an alternative to GRUB2.
