Panther Lake Powered Framework Laptop 13 Pro Sees Linux Microphone Fix

([Hardware] 50 Minutes Ago Framework Laptop 13)

Ahead of the new Framework Laptop 13 Pro laptops beginning to ship in June, an audio microphone fix was merged this weekend to the mainline Linux kernel for these new Intel Panther Lake powered devices.

This week's [1]sound fixes pull includes a fix for the microphone boost on the Framework PTL (Panther Lake) laptop, which is coming with the brand new [2]Framework 13 Pro model.

Framework Computer engineer Daniel Schaefer explains of the microphone issue being resolved in [3]the patch :

"In addition to the mic jack fix, also need to avoid boosting the internal mic too much, otherwise >50% input volume clips a lot.

Also add a second SSID. We have one for the classic chassis/speaker and one for the new Pro chassis/speaker."

Notable is the patch does seem to indicate Panther Lake will be coming for the non-Pro Framework 13 laptop model.

The sound fixes for this week were merged to Git ahead of Linux 7.1-rc4 due out later today. So just be aware of this if you happen to be an early pre-order customer of the Framework 13 Pro and encounter any microphone issues under Linux -- look out for a kernel update for your distribution.

The sound fixes merged this week for Linux 7.1 also add a mute LED quirk for the HP Pavilion 16-ag0xxx laptop, a Realtek ALC269 fix for the Lenovo Yoga Pro 7 15ASH111 audio, a quirk for the TTGK Technology USB-C Audio, and a quirk for the Samsung Galaxy Book 5 360 headphone.
