This week marked the release of [1]the KDE Plasma 6.7 beta and even so there were some last-minute features being squeezed into this popular Linux desktop option. Plasma's built-in remote desktop server enhancements and improved Plasma notification effects are among the changes topping out this week.
This Week in Plasma is out with its latest issue to highlight the latest improvements for Plasma 6.7 ahead of its stable release in June. Some early Plasma 6.8 work is also getting underway.
Plasma 6.7 now allows configuring what triggers Plasma's virtual keyboard to appear on-screen.
KDE's "hide from screencast" feature has been extended for windows to now be "hide from screenshots and screen recordings" if wanting to always hide certain window contents from appearing in screencasts/screenshots.
Also with Plasma 6.7 is Discover now grouping items on its "Installed" page into categories by default.
One interesting visual improvement with Plasma 6.7 is that Plasma notifications will now slide in from off-screen rather than fading in.
Gwenview has also become Plasma's default SVG viewer rather than GIMP.
Plasma 6.7 also squeezed in progressive encoding support for Plasma's built-in remote desktop server for use when the client doesn't support H.264 encoding or lacking codecs. Progressive encoding will deliver more bandwidth-efficient remote desktop serving. There is also better performance and lower latency out of this built-in remote desktop server.
Lastly for the week, Plasma 6.7 is supporting the Wayland Text Input v3.2 protocol.
