For those eager to get their hands on Valve's new Steam Controller, the gaming controller is now shipping.
After [1]announcing the Steam Controller with the Steam Frame and new Steam Machine last year, the Steam Controller is now the first of those new Valve hardware products now shipping. Valve last week [2]announced the 4th of May release date and the $99 USD pricing for this controller.
The $99 price may be high for some users but is a high quality controller and at least not as much as [3]the $160 ASUS gaming controller or other alternatives. The new Steam Controller features magnetic thumbsticks, 4 x haptic motors, 8.39 Wh battery, and supports wireless and wired operation.
The Steam Controller on Linux will work with games via the Steam Runtime. So far we haven't seen any Linux kernel patches around HID driver support for the new Steam Controller outside of Steam.
Those interested in buying the Steam Controller can find it now available [4]SteamPowered.com . At least in the US it's estimated for delivery in 3~5 business days.
