Merged on Friday ahead of the Linux 7.1-rc2 kernel release due out tomorrow were this week's batch of Direct Rendering Manager (DRM) kernel graphics / display / accelerator driver fixes.
Most notable were the many AMDGPU kernel graphics driver fixes to land this week, that range from GFX11.5.4 IP fixes to other newer IP block fixes and then also bringing in some improvements for older AMD GCN 1.0/1.1 era hardware support thanks to Valve's Timur Kristóf.
Among that work from Timur that is now in Linux 7.1 Git is [1]enabling support for "harvested" GPU configurations such as enabling the Radeon HD 7870 XT on Linux for the first time. After an initial bug report all the way back in 2013, the mainline Linux kernel should now be playing nicely with the HD 7870 XT Tahiti LE and similar harvested GPUs.
There is also a fix for the AMDGPU DC analog display output support that was mistakenly broken/regressed. Patches from Timur also now allow embedded display connectors without DDC, support for reading the display EDID from the vBIOS embedded panel information, and other related work. In turn that benefits older laptops with Radeon graphics for pesky LVDS/eDP panels.
The merged AMDGPU fixes this week also benefit the user queue "UserQ" ongoing work, GART placement, UVD 3.1, RAS, and other updates.
Over on the Intel Xe driver side is some new Xe3P tuning and workaround fixes.
See [2]this merge for the DRM fixes now in Linux Git ahead of tomorrow's Linux 7.1-rc2 test release.
