Linux Support Coming For The ASUS ROG RAIKIRI II: A $160 High-End Gaming Controller

([Linux Gaming] 3 Hours Ago ASUS ROG RAIKIRI II)

The ASUS ROG RAIKIRI II is a recently-launched wireless gaming controller for both PC and Xbox gaming. This is a premium controller priced at $160 USD and has been receiving positive reviews under Windows while now it will soon be seeing mainline Linux support.

The ASUS ROG RAIKIRI II features 1KHz polling, TMR joysticks, dual-mode triggers, micri-switch buttons, and USB-C / Bluetooth / 2.4GHz RF connectivity options. The ROG RAIKIRI II was developed alongside the ROG Ally gaming handheld at ASUS to pair well. The controller also features a physical switch for putting it in PC or Xbox gaming modes.

The ASUS ROG RAIKIRI II looks to be a very nice wireless controller albeit expensive with it retailing for around $160 USD at the likes of [1]Amazon (affiliate link).

Similar to the 2024 patch activity for [2]Linux support with the original ASUS ROG Raikiri controller , support for the RAIKIRI II is now coming and similarly via the existing XPad driver that supports many of the Xbox gaming controllers under Linux.

[3]This patch was posted yesterday to the Linux kernel mailing list for adding the proper vendor and product IDs for this controller. Due to that PC / Xbox toggle switch, the device ID changes and thus extra IDs are needed for identifying this controller in either mode.

The support patch is already [4]queued into the input subsystem's "for-linus" Git branch and thus should be submitted as part of the input "fixes" for the ongoing Linux 7.1 kernel cycle.

[I plan] to see, hear, touch, and destroy everything in my path,
including beets, rutabagas, and most random vegetables, but excluding yams,
as I am absolutely terrified of yams...
Actually, I think my fear of yams began in my early youth, when many
of my young comrades pelted me with same for singing songs of far-off lands
and deep blue seas in a language closely resembling that of the common sow.
My psychosis was further impressed into my soul as I reached adolescence,
when, while skipping through a field of yams, light-heartedly tossing flowers
into the stratosphere, a great yam-picking machine tore through the fields,
pursuing me to the edge of the great plantation, where I escaped by diving
into a great ditch filled with a mixture of water and pig manure, which may
explain my tendency to scream, "Here come the Martians! Hide the eggs!" every
time I have pork. But I digress. The fact remains that I cannot rationally
deal with yams, and pigs are terrible conversationalists.
