The Linux 7.0-rc6 kernel due for release tomorrow has a lot of audio fixes/quirks to correct a wide variety of different hardware issues, mostly different problematic laptops for their speakers and/or microphone behavior under Linux.
Due to Linux sound subsystem maintainer Takashi Iwai of SUSE taking time off last week, this week's round of sound fixes is heavier than usual. Among the notable fixes/quirks that were merged to the Linux 7.0 kernel yesterday include:
- A Realtek HDA audio qurik for the ASUS Strix G16 G615JMR 2025 laptop. A quirk needs to be applied to the ALC269 code for the amplifier to work properly under Linux.
- A quirk for the ASUS ProArt PX13 HN7306EA laptop for proper SoundWire handling in that AMD Ryzen powered 2025 laptop.
- A quirk to fix the lack of audio output for the ASUS ROG Flow Z13-KJP GZ302EAC Strix Halo laptop.
- A quirk for the ASUS ExpertBook BM1403CDA to resolve an issue of the internal microphone not being detected.
- The MSI Thin A15 B7VF also saw a quirk for resolving its internal microphone not being detected either under Linux.
- A quirk for the Lenovo Yoga 7 2-in-1 16AKP10 to address the bass speakers not being configured and the speaker volume cannot be controlled.
- A quirk for HP ENVY Laptop 13-ba0xxx laptops to enable the proper mute LED and microphone mute behavior.
- And a quirk for a mute LED issue on the HP Pavilion 15-eg0xxx too as well as the HP Laptop 15-fd0xxx.
- Fixing the speaker mute LED for the HP EliteBoard G1a platform.
- Silencing a useless warning on the MSI X870E Tomahawk motherboard by adding it to a denylist since it uses USB-based audio rather than PCI or HD Audio.
- A quirk for the AB17X USB Audio to fix suspend/resuming failing, which can be avoided with a simple reset and delay quirk.
- A fix for the Star Labs StarFighter to better correct a prior workaround that still left the system with a "pop" sound during runtime suspend and audio popping around G3 entry and display manager start.
See [1]this pull request for the full list of sound fixes now merged ahead of the Linux 7.0-rc6 release.
