([GNOME] 46 Minutes Ago GNOME 50)

[1]GNOME 50 is out today, on-schedule and just in time for being the default desktop of the likes of Ubuntu 26.04 LTS and Fedora Workstation 44.

GNOME 50 has many incremental improvements for further polishing the modern GNOME Shell desktop. The GNOME Files (Nautilus) file manager is faster than before and with better thumbnailing of files, parental controls / digital well being support has improved, various accessibility improvements, improved HDR / color management support, better VRR and fractional scaling support, improved performance for those using the official NVIDIA graphics driver stack, and much more. Especially for those interested in variable refresh rate and HDR usage, GNOME 50 is a big step forward.

GNOME 50 with GTK 4.22 also has better SVG support, SDR-Native mode for Mutter, remote desktop enhancements, improved discrete GPU detection, and other improvements on the Wayland front.

More details on today's GNOME 50 release can be found via the [2]GNOME.org announcement and the [3]release notes .

Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
