Last year [1]GlobalFoundries acquired MIPS while an interesting new development announced today is that GlobalFoundries has acquired the ARC Processor IP and its solutions business from Synopsys. The Synopsys ARC Processor IP will be brought into the MIPS umbrella.
GlobalFoundries just annoucned on the wire that they are acquiring the ARC and ARC-V Processor IP Solutions business from Synopsys. As part of it, the engineers and designers will be joining GlobalFoundries under the MIPS organization.
Synopsys has owned the ARC processor IP since 2010 when acquiring Virage Logic. In 2023 is when they expanded the ARC IP line-up to include ARC-V for RISC-V compatible processor IP. Now all of this processor IP business is heading over to GlobalFoundries under the MIPS umbrella.
