Asahi Linux Gets Microphone Working For M2 Pro/Max, Eyes Installer Improvements

([Apple] 3 Hours Ago M2 Pro/Max Macs)

The Asahi Linux project is out with their latest status report to highlight upstream improvements made for the newly-minted Linux 6.18 kernel as well as some of their efforts going on downstream within Asahi Linux itself.

The Asahi Linux developers have managed to largely sort out the microphone support for Apple Macs using the M2 Pro or M2 Max SoCs. The M1 Pro/Max SoCs in Apple devices have enjoyed full microphone support but for the M2 Pro/Max devices the support didn't carry over straight-away.

The M2 Pro/Max microphone issue was sorted out to be a one-liner with the "apple.dma-range" property in the Device Tree file. Once dropping the relevant Apple DMA range property, working microphone support is now in place for M2 Pro and M2 Max MacBook laptops. There still is work to do but at least with that DT property removed the microphone can finally be utilized under Linux.

Another area being worked on by Asahi Linux developers is enhancing the installation experience. In particular, ensuring that the macOS system recovery partition and other important firmware / factory calibration data / etc aren't accidentally deleted.
