Budgie 10.10 Desktop Approved For Fedora 44 Packaging, Fedora Budgie Spin All-Wayland

([Fedora] 12 Hours Ago Fedora 44 + Budgie 10.10)

In addition to approving [1]Fedora Cloud switching /boot to a Btrfs subvolume , another change approved this week by the Fedora Engineering and Steering Committee (FESCo) is for shipping the Budgie 10.10 desktop packages in Fedora 44.

Fedora already enjoys Budgie in the package repository as an alternative desktop option. There is also the Fedora Budgie Spin for those wanting to enjoy the Budgie desktop experience out-of-the-box. Now for Fedora 44, it will get Budgie 10.10 thanks to the FESCo approval.

Budgie 10.10 is [2]currently out in preview form and is the release that shifts its X11 desktop session support over to Wayland.

Budgie 10.10 migrates from X11 to Wayland which aligns with Fedora's focus on Wayland and replacing X11. Budgie 10.10 makes use of labwc as its Wayland compositor. As part of the Fedora change proposal, they also plan to make use of SDDM as the display manager that uses Wayland by default to then provide the Fedora Budgie Spin with a "Wayland-native from startup to shutdown" experience.

More details on the Fedora 44 plans for Budgie 10.10 that are now approved via the [3]Fedora change proposal .
