Steam Survey For July Shows Linux Use Approaching 3%

([Valve] 4 Hours Ago Steam Survey)

Back in February [1]Steam on Linux was at a 1.45% marketshare , then was corrected to [2]2.33% for Linux gaming in March , [3]2.27% for April , a nice jump to [4]2.69% for Linux gaming in May , and June came in at [5]2.57% for the Linux gaming population as a percent of Steam users. The July numbers were published this evening and show a new recent high for Linux gamers.

The July 2025 results of the Steam Survey were posted a few minutes ago and show a healthy 0.32% increase to put the Linux gaming marketshare at 2.89%. That's a recent high in percentage terms and while Steam saw around 3% in the early days of Steam on Linux a decade ago, in absolute terms this is likely the largest surveyed figure ever for the Linux gaming population.

Linux was at 2.89% for July while macOS was at 1.88% and Windows at 95.23%.

Overall though SteamOS Holo as the base (Arch Linux derived) operating system of the Steam Deck continues to rank most common, to no surprise.

Thanks in large part to the Steam Deck being powered by a custom AMD APU and then many Linux gamers and enthusiasts preferring AMD to their open-source nature, AMD CPU use among Linux gamers continues to hover around the 68% mark. Under Windows, AMD CPU use on Steam is around 40%.
