AMD Makes Another Software Acquisition To Bolster Their AI & Compiler Talent

([AMD] 2 Hours Ago AMD + Brium)

In addition to the excitement this morning of the [1]Radeon RX 9060 XT review embargo lift, today also serves as another special day at AMD as they announced they have acquired software firm Brium.

AMD announced they are acquiring Brium to help better position them in the open AI software ecosystem.

Brium? It didn't ring a bell for me either. The [2]Brium.ai website seems to indicate the start-up is in stealth mode as it simply says coming soon. The tag-line under their logo simply says "Ignite AI-driven innovation with open ecosystems."

AMD's announcement describes Brium as having "world-class compiler and AI software experience" and these software engineers will help AMD "deliver highly optimized AI solutions across the entire stack."

"Brium brings advanced software capabilities that strengthen our ability to deliver highly optimized AI solutions across the entire stack. Their work in compiler technology, model execution frameworks, and end-to-end AI inference optimization will play a key role in enhancing the efficiency and flexibility of our AI platform.

This acquisition strengthens our foundation for long-term innovation. It reflects our strategic commitment to AI, particularly to the developers who are building the future of intelligent applications. It is also the latest in a series of targeted investments, following the acquisitions of Silo AI, Nod.ai, and Mipsology, that together advance our ability to support the open-source software ecosystem and deliver optimized performance on AMD hardware."

This follows other recent AMD acquisitions like [3]Nod.ai to help their open-source AI software efforts , [4]Silo AI , and other acquisitions and software efforts over the past two years. It will be interesting to see what this work yields and on the future of AMD's open-source AI/ROCm software efforts.

Tux Penguin Boxing Match

LAS VEGAS, NV -- The unofficial Linux mascot Tux the Penguin will face his arch
rival the BSD Daemon in a boxing match this Saturday night. The match is part
of the International Computer Mascot Boxing Federation's First Annual World
Championship Series. The winner will advance to face one of the Intel "Bunny
People".

Boxing pundits favor Tux as the winner. Last week Tux won his first match in
the Championship Series against Wilbur the Gimp. "The Gimp didn't have a
chance," one spectator said. "With Tux's ability to run at top speeds of over
100mph, I don't see how he could possibly lose." The BSD Daemon, however, is
certainly a formidible opponent. While boxing rules prohibit the Daemon from
using his patented pitchfork, his pointy horns are permitted in the ring.

Some observers think the whole Computer Mascot Boxing Federation is a fake.
"WWF is all scripted," one sports writer pointed out. "And so is this. You
actually think that a penguin is capable of boxing? The idea of a penguin
fighting a demon is patently absurd. This whole Championship Series has no
doubt been scripted. It's probably nothing more than two little kids in
penguin and demon suits duking it out in a boxing ring. What a waste of time."
