OpenBMC 2.18 Released With Many More Motherboard Ports Upstreamed

([Hardware] 3 Hours Ago OpenBMC 2.18)

OpenBMC 2.18 released on Friday as the newest version of this Linux Foundation project providing an open-source baseboard management controller (BMC) firmware stack implementation. In recent years [1]OpenBMC has been enjoying increasing success in deploying to server platforms from the mega hyperscalers to the more prominent OEM/ODM vendors seeing increasing customer demand for open-source BMC as part of broader open-source firmware interest from the industry.

OpenBMC 2.18 is derived from Yocto 5.2 Linux as its base and upstreams support for many more motherboards. The newly-upstreamed OpenBMC support ranges from reference motherboard designs from AMD and and Intel Ampere to various server platforms from the likes of Tyan, Supermicro, Wistron, IBM, HPE, ASRock, and others. There are also hyper-scaler platforms upstreamed from the likes of Meta / Facebook and Bytedance.

NEW YORK-- Kraft Foods, Inc. announced today that its board of
directors unanimously rejected the $11 billion takeover bid by Philip
Morris and Co. A Kraft spokesman stated in a press conference that the
offer was rejected because the $90-per-share bid did not reflect the
true value of the company.
Wall Street insiders, however, tell quite a different story.
Apparently, the Kraft board of directors had all but signed the takeover
agreement when they learned of Philip Morris' marketing plans for one of
their major Middle East subsidiaries. To a person, the board voted to
reject the bid when they discovered that the tobacco giant intended to
reorganize Israeli Cheddar, Ltd., and name the new company Cheeses of Nazareth.
