The past year we've been looking forward to [1]a RISC-V motherboard option coming to the Framework Laptop 13 via Framework's partnership with DeepComputing. There was [2]early access in late 2024 while this week DeepComputing has formally announced the DC-ROMA RISC-V AI PC Mainboard II now available at $349 USD.
The DeepComputing DC-ROMA RISC-V AI PC Mainboard II is powered by the ESWIN 7702X SoC with SiFive P550 RISC-V cores. This motherboard for the Framework Laptop 13 provides eight RISC-V cores up to 2.0GHz, a 40 TOPS NPU, PowerVR Imagination graphics, 32GB of RAM, SSD or eMMC/SSF/TF card, and ships with Ubuntu 24.04 LTS by default. This new "Mainboard II" an improvement over the original DC-ROMA RISC-V motherboard that was powered by a JH7110 SoC.
Pricing on the DC-ROMA Mainboard II for the Framework Laptop is $349 USD for the basic package and 32GB of RAM without any storage. From there the pricing goes up with add-ons or if wanting to buy it within a Framework Laptop 13 chassis.
Unfortunately I have no review sample of the DC-ROMA RISC-V AI PC Mainboard II so no performance benchmarks nor are there any from the vendor. But you can see my prior [3]SiFive HiFive Premier P550 benchmarks with the SiFive P550 cores for getting an idea of the performance - for most instances a Raspberry Pi will be faster and obviously no competition to the likes of the recently launched [4]Framework Laptop 13 with AMD Ryzen AI 300 series .
