Improvements To The Ad Experience

([Phoronix] 2 Hours Ago Ad Tweaks)

As a result of user feedback and being able to reproduce some annoying ad experiences, particularly on mobile devices, I've been able to make some enhancements to hopefully improve the user ad experience when browsing Phoronix.

Particularly on mobile devices and other configurations, the Google "Auto Ads" and the like have been going a bit rampant lately with annoying inserting ads or inserting too many ads that have cluttered the reading experience. Thankfully some new controls have been introduced more recently and other tweaks now made to hopefully yield a better experience.

Let me know if you've seen any experience while browsing the site over the past two days or in the days ahead. If finding any very annoying ads or similar, please let me know by commenting in the forums and ideally with a screenshot. If you've been using ad-block recently on Phoronix, please give it another go with white-listing.

The ad state overall remains frustrating with relying on network ads due to the lack of vendors specifically seeking out our largely Linux desktop focused user-base and similar, plus having no dedicated ad sales teams, and many of the large vendors focusing their ad buys with Meta and similar. The sad state of the ad industry paired with rampant ad-blocking use by readers continues to put me in a rather tough spot.

Those wishing to help support the site but preferring any ad-free experience can [1]join Phoronix Premium . By going the [2]Phoronix Premium route you can enjoy ad-free browsing, multi-page articles on a single page, native dark mode theme support, and other benefits while helping to allow me to continue running the site after 20+ years.

Thanks for your support and feedback on the revised ad experience.
