The Speedy Ptyxis Terminal Emulator Available On Ubuntu 24.10

([Ubuntu] 5 Hours Ago Ptyxis On Ubuntu)

For those on Debian experimental or planning on upgrading to Ubuntu 24.10 that is releasing this week, the Ptyxis terminal emulator is now available in the package archive if wanting to try out this speedy terminal option.

Ptyxis was [1]formerly known as GNOME Prompt and worked on by Christian Hergert with an emphasis on performance. Ptyxis supports GPU acceleration and aims to deliver optimal terminal emulator performance. Besides its performance characteristics, Ptyxis is also focused on delivering first-rate support for containers.

Ptyxis isn't the default terminal emulator on Ubuntu 24.10 but that remains with GNOME Console. However, Canonical engineer Jeremy Bicha this past week was able to land Ptyxis in [2]Debian unstable/experimental and in turn pulling it into the package archive for the upcoming Ubuntu 24.10 release.

Ptyxis 47.2 is currently in the [4]Ubuntu Oracular archive . Thus a simple sudo apt install ptyxis for those on Ubuntu 24.10 and wanting to try out this new terminal emulator option. For those not yet on Ubuntu 24.10 or other distributions, Ptyxis is also available in Flatpak form via Flathub.
