After many years in the making, it finally was merged overnight... The real-time " [1]PREEMPT_RT " kernel support was merged a few hours ago into Linux Git for this year's Linux 6.12 kernel!
Linus Torvalds went ahead and merged the PREEMPT_RT support for Linux 6.12. This real-time kernel support is initially available for ARM64, RISC-V, and x86 / x86_64. This real-time kernel support has been twenty years in the making and to this point maintained via a frequently updates set of out-of-tree patches.
Thanks to [2]the last blocker around the printk code being merged a few days ago, PREEMPT_RT was finally in a position to land.
It's [3]merged ! Linux 6.12 is going to be a wild kernel with all the changes in tow and is also expected to be this year's LTS kernel version.
