Germany's Sovereign Tech Fund is set to make a €688,800 investment into the Samba open-source project that re-implements the SMB networking protocol and focused on better file and print service interoperability with Microsoft Windows systems.
[1]Samba will be working with the Sovereign Tech Fund on enhancing the security, scalability, and functionality of the SMB and IAM protocols through early 2026. Over the next 18 months they are set to receive 688k EUR for this work to add new SMB3 UNIX extensions, SMB over QUIC, transparent failover, and other new features.
