([Operating Systems] 3 Hours Ago Gentoo Linux + MIPS + Alpha)

While Gentoo Linux recently [1]ended their support for Itanium (IA-64) hardware , this popular source-based Linux distribution continues to support other aging platforms... Today they sent out an announcement highlighting their improved support for MIPS and Alpha based hardware.

Gentoo's MIPS and Alpha hardware support had been struggling like Itanium due to a lack of volunteers. But there has been renewed volunteer interest in both MIPS and Alpha platforms.

Gentoo Linux on MIPS is seeing interest across all the o32 / n32 / n64 variants and both little and big endian. Even for old DEC/Alpha hardware there is volunteer improvements ongoing including a new bootable installation CD.

Those interested in using Gentoo Linux with aging MIPS and/or Alpha hardware can find more details on these recent improvements via [2]Gentoo.org .
