Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS has been released as the first point release of the current Long Term Support series that began in April with the "Noble Numbat" debut.
Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS incorporates all the stable release updates with security and bug fixes to the packages since the April release of Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. Thus on fresh installs it's a much quicker initial setup with already having four months worth of updates applied. The later Ubuntu Long Term Support point releases are more notable when they begin with new hardware enablement stacks back-ported from newer Ubuntu (non-LTS) releases to provide an updated kernel, better Mesa graphics driver support, etc.
Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS is a notable point though in it's the period when Canonical begins encouraging more users of the previous LTS series, Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, to begin upgrading to the Ubuntu 24.04 LTS series. The first point release also tends to be the time at which other more conservative users and organizations begin consider upgrading.
Kubuntu 24.04.1 LTS, Ubuntu Budgie 24.04.1 LTS, Ubuntu MATE 24.04.1 LTS, Lubuntu 24.04.1 LTS, Ubuntu Kylin 24.04.1 LTS, Ubuntu Studio 24.04.1 LTS, Xubuntu 24.04.1 LTS, Edubuntu 24.04.1 LTS, Ubuntu Cinnamon 24.04.1 LTS and Ubuntu Unity 24.04.1 LTS are also now available.
