Azure Linux as Microsoft's in-house Linux operating system that is used for a variety of purposes is out with a new feature release.

Azure Linux 3.0.20240824 was released yesterday and comes with more kernel features being enabled, a number of new packages introduced, many fixes, and also some security fixes (CVEs) being addressed.

Among the new packages in this routine Azure Linux 3.0 update include cpufrequtils, mtr, and sysfsutils. Among the kernel features now being enabled with this latest Azure Linux 3.0 release is CONFIG_RT_GROUP_SCHED within their RT kernel and then in their vanilla kernel enabling EVM, FS_VERITY, the IPE secure Linux security module, Multi-Path TCP (MTPSC), and the USB TMC module.

Azure Linux 3.0.20240824 also enables virtual repo snapshot support, adding DMI / EROFS / DM-VERITY drivers, a new license validator tool, NVIDIA driver integration updates, and many other upgrades and fixes.

Last but certainly not least... The xorg-x11-server-Xwayland v24.1.1 package has been added. XWayland is now available on Azure Linux. So far Azure Linux has refrained from shipping nay desktops / compositors. It will be interesting to see what comes here and if they end up offering any desktop options moving forward or stick strictly to server/cloud headless deployments.
