GTA 6 Is Reportedly Coming to PC In Early 2027 (gamesbeat.com)

(Tuesday October 13, 2026 @11:30PM (BeauHD) from the what-to-expect dept.)

GamesBeat reports that Rockstar [1]plans to release Grand Theft Auto VI on PC in the first quarter of 2027 , just a few months after its November 19, 2026 launch on consoles. The report follows Microsoft's announcement last week that it had [2]secured exclusive cloud-streaming rights to the game. Since Rockstar has yet to officially announce a PC version, "this deal will allow Xbox to market its Xbox Cloud Gaming service to PC players who would otherwise need an Xbox Series X / S or PS5 console," The Verge reported at the time. GamesBeat reports:

> The Q1 2027 PC release window for GTA VI comes only a few months after the game's November 2026 console launch, representing a significantly quicker turnaround for PC development than the previous iteration of Grand Theft Auto, whose April 2015 PC release came roughly a year and seven months after the September 2013 release of Grand Theft Auto V.

>

> The user base of Grand Theft Auto V skews largely towards console players, with PC players representing a small minority. With GTA VI's production budget rumored to exceed $2 billion, Rockstar is highly incentivized to pull all the levers it can as fast as it can to monetize the game's upcoming sequel -- and PC players represent a significant expansion of the GTA VI audience.

>

> The potential benefits of launching GTA VI relatively quickly on PC go beyond the opportunity to grow the game's casual player base. Rockstar has signaled its plans to implement user-generated content creation tools into GTA VI, and the company's August 2023 acquisition of Cfx.re, the development team behind the prominent Grand Theft Auto V roleplaying server company FiveM, made it clear that Rockstar considers online roleplaying in GTA to be a factor in the game's future.

I wonder if they planned to do the PC port this soon, or if this is an urgent reaction to the rapid progress of PS5 emulators like AnyPS5. If they had released the PC port a year or two later like usual, there's a very real chance that PC players would be playing pirated copies of GTA6 on PC before the official release, hurting sales.

Except console sales haven't nosedived. PS5 sales in August 2026 are around 72% what they were two years ago (so before the RAM crisis), which can just as easily be accounted for by the fact that the console launched six years ago, and they've already sold 95 million of them: we're very late in the generation. Even if sales were the same as two years ago, that wouldn't represent a very large percentage difference in the size of the install base by the time the game launches in November.

Surely the media would never exaggerate and sensationalize?!?!?

Sales are down. Yes, I'm sure the higher console prices aren't helping. Or the fact that we're so late in the generation. But sales aren't down by *that* much, and the game comes out in a month, and they've already sold 95 million PS5s. Selling a few hundred thousand less consoles, not all of whom would have bought the game anyway, isn't going to make that big of a difference in the game's sales. [1]As we recently discussed here [slashdot.org], it won't allow that, whether because they didn't get the rights or because they decided not to do so. I would of course bet on the former, because R* wouldn't want the competition and they are not run by idiots.

Anyhoo, I wonder whether this version of the game will work on Linux. They have historically had a lot of problems with cheaters, which I have both been harmed by and benefited from at different times — when the big cash cheat was happening, they did take away mo

You can see how badly the game runs on current console hardware even in the cherry-picked footage they showed to you in the trailer.

Game is confirmed to be aiming at 30FPS on launch on the consoles that they've been targeting for like 8 years now.

Coupled with the "exclusive cloud-streaming rights" it sounds to me like they're releasing the PC port this early so people can try to run it on their GTX 1660 and find out that's unplayable and then dejectedly pay hourly to play it on Xbox cloud instead.

Anyway, a month back, I just did my first complete playthrough of GTA4 and it was a blast. Everything maxed out even though my GPU is 6 years old (still decade newer than the game), mods actually fixed most of the billion bugs left in the official releases, as well as the performance that was atrocious without bugs even on today hardware. Got the game including DLC for like $15 at some point.

I'm looking towards maybe playing GTA6 someday perhaps in .~2035; if we make it that far, it sounds like that might be a decent experience by then.

Wait, are you still talking about a game here, or are you referring to a "decent experience" in 2035 shopping for Soylent Green Lite at the futuristic foodcourt hellscape of GTA7; The Real World FML Edition while shopping for phased plasma rifles in a 40-watt range with a walnut stock and colbalt blue steel. The Xbox Cloud is built around Xbox Series X hardware in blade form. So if 30fps at console quality is not to customer's expectations, then they are going to walk away similarly dejected.

The thing is, for consoles 30fps is entirely playable as long as its *stable* for all except the turbo-gamers who are unhappy with anything less than 120fps ultra 4k. 60fps is observably better. Beyond that... eh..... Not a lot of point outside of competitive PVP. Most gamers dont have reflexes fast enough to really make great use of it. But 30fps feels comfortable, just not perfect.
