If I buy a device and one of its selling points boasted by the company is a clean, bloat-minimal OxygenOS, is it legal for them to force everyone onto a completely different ColorOS, loaded with bloatware, not even a year after purchasing the device?
I don't think it's going to make a huge difference (Score:2)
From what I can tell color OS has bloatware but it can all just be uninstalled. The major complaint with color OS is that it has a different icon set that's meant to look like ios. Also by default color OS is missing all the Google apps but that's a Chinese thing. They can be installed they just aren't there by default like they are for oxygen OS.

If you stop your updates at android 16, or even 15, you should get getting a pretty stable phone, without unexpected, breaking updates.
I experimented with replacing Oxygen with Color (Score:2)
But the experiments did not go well.
In the first set of tests, none of the subjects were able to fully inhale the crayons. Death from suffocation was the result in every case, with only one subject managing to get a crayon into a brachial tube. The feasibility of absorption by alveoli could not be tested.
In the second set of tests, the crayons failed to react with the elemental fluorine in the expected manner, instead coating the crystals and preventing any reaction with oxygen in secondary testing.

If you're in the States and want an equivalent that seems to be the one. I tried the newest Samsung Galaxy but the battery life was horrible.
Qualcomm chips have by far the best modems. If you've got signal issues the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 or 5 is the way to go. But they're battery hogs so you really want that 7000+ mwh battery...
Also watch out for expensive phones with old Gen 6 and 7 chips.
