Fedora's AI Developer Desktop Initiative Blocked by Community Backlash (itsfoss.com)

[1]The blog It's FOSS has an update on the Fedora AI Developer Desktop Initiative, a proposed platform for AI/machine learning workloads on Fedora. It's [2]now been blocked "after two Fedora Council members retracted their earlier approval votes."
> The initiative was proposed by Red Hat engineer Gordon Messmer, aiming to deliver an Atomic Desktop with accelerated AI workload support, covering developer tools, hardware enablement, and building a community around AI on Fedora... At the [3]May 6 council meeting, the members unanimously voted to approve this new initiative. After which a short, lazy consensus window was left open until May 8 to accommodate absent members, after which the decision was to be ratified.

Currently AI devs mostly use Ubuntu often LTS. Ubuntu already decided to ship the required libraries in the next releases to make it even simpler to get started. If Redhat wants people to use Redhat systems for developing future apps, they need to adapt as well. They can decide that's not their market, but that's an active decision against a segment of their potential user base.

Agreed. But this should be a Fedora Spin so those who want it can get it easily and thise who do not, need not even see it.

Don't bring your filthy machines to our factory or will stick shoes into the gears!
It's just taking away good jobs from good people and replacing them with clunky, expensive machines that breakdown all the time. They cannot match a human craftsman!!

CUDA is an albatross (Score:2)
When it comes to AI (and tooling) "It's complicated". Developers who want (need) to use the nvidia tooling (CUDA) need something that Fedora has never been (stable and slow moving). Perhaps when the nova-core nvidia module is available in linux things could be different, although that will be true only if nvidia helps.

The most stable Linux distro I ever used was Slackware, all the other distros have too much cruft & kludge to be stable, I know my comment will step on some toes and to that I say "que sera sera"
