YouTube TV Blackout Is Costing Disney an Estimated $4.3 Million Per Day In Lost Revenue (variety.com)

(Tuesday November 11, 2025 @10:30PM (BeauHD) from the financial-pinch dept.)

Disney is [1]losing an estimated $4.3 million per day (about $30 million per week) from the ongoing YouTube TV blackout of ESPN, ABC, and other networks amid a contract dispute over carriage fees. Of course, YouTube is also feeling financial pressure from users who have already canceled or intend to cancel their service. Variety reports:

> Disney is losing an estimated $30 million per week from its networks being pulled off YouTube TV, which works out to nearly $4.3 million per day, according to Morgan Stanley analysts. The figure came in a research note from Morgan Stanley equity analysts Benjamin Swinburne and Thomas Yeh, who said in their financial forecast for Disney's year-end 2025 quarter, they are "layering in 14 days of impact from the ongoing YouTube TV blackout, which we estimate is a $60mm revenue headwind."

> Nov. 11 marks the 12th day of the Disney blackout on YouTube TV. The Morgan Stanley analysts wrote that they expect the Disney-YouTube TV dispute to be resolved later this week, but estimated that each week its networks are dark on YouTube TV will lower Disney's adjusted earnings per share by 2 cents.

Yeah, I dropped YouTube TV about a week ago and went with DirectTV Stream instead. Google seems to be playing hardball with all of their content suppliers, and I've been dealing with intermittent channel outages from the various networks because of it.

None of that savings is ending up in my pocket, though, as their prices have gone from $45 a month to $85 a month over the past 18 months.

Disney wants to have their cake, and to eat it too. If they un-bundle ESPN they know full well they will lose about 70% of the cable subscribers (based on past evaluations, only about 30% are dedicated sports fanatics). Those 30% really really want their sports, of course, and they don't really want to pay for it at fully the un-bundled price.

YTTV would probably like to un-bundle. Disney does not. Because if Disney un-bundles for YTTY, the MFN (Most Favorite Nation) clauses will come into force, and
