T-Mobile Brings Free 911 Emergency Texting To AT&T and Verizon Customers

(Wednesday November 05, 2025 @05:50PM (msmash) from the moving-forward dept.)

An anonymous reader shares a report:

> T-Mobile is opening up access to its [1]Starlink-powered emergency texting service . The carrier announced on Wednesday that anyone with a compatible phone -- even AT&T and Verizon customers -- [2]can sign up to text 911 over satellite for free .

>

> In July, T-Mobile launched its "T-Satellite" service to customers across the US for $10 per month, [3]allowing both T-Mobile and non-T-Mobile customers to send messages, share their location, and access select apps over satellite. This service also includes texts to 911, but now, that's available for free.

Can't imagine paying $10 a month for that. You'd really have to be off-grid all the time to make it worth such. I'll stick with the free satellite texting Apple provides to iPhone users. Tried it in a plane while over the Atlantic and was able to text friends without issue. Rather impressive.

No, it's not $10/month for free 911 service. It's free.

Free, but you have to watch an ad first (Score:2)

After all, they have bills to pay, too.

Ironically, the ads will probably be for TV shows like "911" ... :-)

When will others get their own? (Score:2)

VZW, AT&T, etc. need to get their own satellite services too.
