It sounds ridiculous at first but a gen 5 NVMe SSD is about that price. Frustrating, but they don't support HDD's so that's what you're gonna have to pay to play the next COD lol

That generation of console doesn't have PCIe 5, though -- only PCIe 4. The PS5 uses standard M.2 NVMe drives, but wants them to be high speed (~7 GB/sec). As a result, one can get 4 TB of extra PS5 storage for between $250 and $280; that's a third less than this storage card, and you can use the PS5 drive in a PC if you want.

Yep, that's what I figured as well. Retail Amazon price on Samsung 4TB 4xPCIe Gen 4 NVMe is $299. The $150 brand tax is modest: if this were Apple it would be $899.
