And so, sunsetting openSNP -- along with deleting the data stored within it -- feels like it is the most responsible act of stewardship for these data today."
"The interesting thing to me is there are data preservation efforts in the U.S. because the government is deleting scientific data that they don't like. This is approaching that same problem from a different direction," he added. "We need to protect the people in this database. I am supportive of preserving scientific data and knowledge, but the data comes second -- the people come first. We prefer deleting the data."

So he has managed an instrument of authoritarianism because he believed that his favorite political team would hold power for all eternity. He's pompously throwing around words like "free", "open" and "scientific" while seemingly neglecting the fact that pseudo-science and government overreach is nothing new.

No he thought guys like you wouldn't be dumb enough to vote for Donald Trump. And boy oh boy was he wrong.
This is a consistent problem with the left wing. We have way way too much hope. Too much Faith in the goodness of mankind.
So we are constantly doing dumb mistakes out of naivety.
Also, favorite political team? I like the fact that democracy versus fascism is now considered a team sport. Like you're just picking between a flavor of ice cream or something and that if you have a preference it's

"the people come first. We prefer deleting the data." Apparently, you're in the minority. The current US government prefers deleting the people (will settle for throwing them out of the country), and the data is only useful if it supports that.
